It is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to our friend, Nerissa, affectionately known as Nissy.
Nissy was many things. An inveterate writer, a blogger, humourist, and creative thinker. AND he has been published. He was also a strong proponent of rescue, TNR, and spreading the word to save kitties from the kill shelters in NYC. We only knew him for a very short time... barely a year... and yet despite the brevity of our friendship it seemed we'd known him a lifetime.
We met Nissy through Facebook when Grammy was falling off the sofa laughing at his blog and we had to see what that was all about. Each blog Nissy wrote made Grammy giggle and guffaw and saw us scrambling to see what was up. Well, then we'd all be rolling on the floor in absolute hysterics. Nissy was a funny guy who knew how to tickle the funny bone. MOUSES! He truly was hilarious. Again, we say, MOUSES!
To us, Nissy became more than a friend. A few months into the friendship he became a mentor and blog coach, encouraging us to start our own blog. His encouragement and advice gave us the impetus to take that huge leap into blogdom. For that we shall be ever grateful. We shall never be stars but he has set a benchmark to which we shall aspire. MOUSES, Nissy! We have our work cut out for us.
Nissy's family asked that anyone wishing to donate to a worthy cause please donate to TeamTNR his charity of choice. For those who don't know what TNR is...Trap, Neuter, Release is a program whereby cats are humanely captured in cages, transferred to a centre where they are neutered or spayed, then returned to their colony and released. This helps to control populations, reduces the competition of toms for mates and the spread of diseases through mating, creates a more calm, harmonious and manageable community. Along with TNR this group also manage a colony and so much more. Definitely a cause of choice. MOUSES!
This may be the shortest blog we've written to date, but the most heartfelt. We miss you Nissy but you shall never be forgotten.
